Help make a difference

With a few simple steps, school staff can improve children’s communication. This impacts positively on children’s self-esteem, learning, relationships, and quality of life. Our mission is to enable staff to take these steps and to make a real difference.

Jan Baerselman

Director

I am passionate about improving children’s communication and constantly seek innovative ways of working with schools. My 30+ years experience providing training and intervention includes: • NHS Speech & Language Therapy Service Manager for Mainstream Schools in Greenwich Borough, London • SaLT with Hampshire County Council (HCC) Specialist Teacher Advisory Service • Project work for NHS Southampton City & HCC • Action research & guest lecturing • Specialist mentoring for other SaLTs

Hannah Trotter

Associate Speech and Language Therapist

Hannah has 14 years’ experience working with children and adults who have a learning disability and/or are autistic. Her most recent role was with Hampshire County Council in the SEND SALT Team. Here she worked in a range of special schools for children aged 2-19. She’s passionate about helping children communicate to their full potential and working with staff and parents to ensure the communication environment is supportive of the child’s communication needs. She has undertaken post-qualification specialist training in PECS (to advanced level), Makaton (Regional Makaton Tutor), ELKLAN, Down Syndrome and much more.

Nikki Hughes

Speech and Language Therapy Assistant

Nikki recently changed careers from a Primary School Teacher and SENCo (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) to working as a Speech and Language Therapy Assistant. She works with Talking Outcomes on a freelance basis under the supervision and guidance of our qualified SaLTs. Nikki has spent her whole career working with children, particularly those with additional needs, and is passionate about supporting all children to reach their potential. Having watched her own young son acquire language she is planning to train to become a SaLT in the next couple of years. She brings a wealth of primary education knowledge & expertise and a range of new resources & approaches to the Talking Outcomes team.

Dan Gibbons

Freelance Project Manager for Service Quality

Dan has over 8 years of experience as a Speech and Language Therapist. He works as both an independent therapist and for the NHS, and has previously worked as a therapist for a private healthcare provider. He frequently works closely with families and staff in early-years settings and mainstream schools, and in families’ homes. His main areas of interest and developing specialism are in language impairments, and he has a keen interest in research. He often works with Talking Outcomes on a freelance basis to develop and support systems aiming to increase, maintain and measure the quality of the service.

Jenny Sturdy

Administrator

Jenny has been running the office for more than two years. She does the finances, manages events and books appointments. She has a background in finance admin and keeps Talking Outcomes running smoothly.
